Hi guys, thanks for that. The answers are:
1. It's a Honeywell silver-looking box about 50mm x 50 mm x 80 mm mounted on the top of a T-shaped junction. I had it replaced about 3 years ago, but the problem I'm experiencing isn't that old.
2. When CH on, HW off, radiator valves open and...
This doesn't sound like it needs explicit planning permission to me, but best to check with the planning authority. As previous poster says, the council can in theory withdraw the usual rights using a thing called an Article 4 Direction.
If you are in a National Park, for example, you may not...
Hi, I've got a weird problem I'm hoping someone can help me. When my timer comes on to heat my hot water, my radiators start heating up. This is despite the fact that:
(a) the timer is NOT also calling for heat (it's on 'TIMED' but the timings are not the same as for the hot water) and
(b)...
Thanks guys, really helpful advice. I think I have figured out why the wiring is the way it is...
The junction box is in my front hall, which is very narrow. From there one cable goes to the socket in my living room, and the other goes further down the hallway and ends up at the other socket...
Yes indeed, both sockets work fine. I am quite sure I don't have two lines.
One of the things I would like to do is replace one of the sockets with a double ADSL/phone socket with built in microfilter. However I am nervous about doing this as I don't know if the double ASDL/phone socket...
Lectrician, thanks for your reply. None of the boxes involved are NTE5 types - there is one very small box by the front door that seems to serve merely as a splitter which serves two other larger boxes each with a phone socket. No removable bottoms - you have to take the whole of the front off...
Hi - hope someone can help. I've got a rather odd BT set up. I want to move some of the cables and sockets, but I'm nervous about getting it wrong or doing something BT won't approve of.
The BT line enters my flat next to my front door and goes straight into a small rectangular white junction...
Pat - thanks for that. This might be the problem, but I am not sure how to check what is happening to the pressure in the boiler. Would this tend to increase when the boiler fires up to provide heat?
Hello all
My central heating has recently started making a sort of humming/vibrating sound as it circulates water. Everything else seems to work fine - new pump last year, but admittedly the system hasn't been flushed or the boiler serviced for at least 3 years. I think the pipes must be...
Thanks all for that advice. In response to the question about whether there are any other problems, the answer is no. I've never had to bleed the radiators (even warmth across the whole panel), and no other circulation problems.
As I say, I needed to replace the pump recently - perhaps that...
Hi all,
I had the pump on my central heating system changed recently and took the opportunity to check the colour of the water in the system. It was somewhat orange brown, which I assume is rust.
Is it time to get the system power flushed through with corrosion inhibitors? I do know this...
I had a similar problem - HW fine but the boiler kept cutting out when the control unit called for heating for the radiators.
It turned out the problem was a burnt out motor - the one that sits on top of the three-way valve that routes hot water either to the storage tank or to the radiators...
Thanks both. I'll check the tank though I think it is probably OK (glanced at it a few weeks ago while messing around in the roof...)
I realise air might be a problem too though again radiators were bled last spring so not convinced this is an issue this time round.
Given that the problem...
Dear Hi-Spec
Thanks for that. I'd certainly thought the pump might be the suspect.
Being a novice, not sure though what f/e stands for...? And what water level should the water in the tank be at? Presumably 3/4 full wouldn't be a problem?
Any further help appreciated!
