    Glass Splashbacks for Kitchen

Hi John Ive had a few done, and always bought them direct from a local glazing company. Ive always taken in a template, got them to cut it and then installed it myself - but even if I was getting them to do the whole job Id still go local as any problems, such as the glass breaking, can be...

What to do with sloped ceiling in bathroom?

If the shower head is going to be below the height of the lowest part of the ceiling, Id just paint it with a water resitant paint- as seems a shame to loose the tongue and groove detail. If the ceiling is going to get wet I supsect you need to use a shower panel, as tiles would be a pig to put...

Weird things going on with Canova Royal WC and Geberit cistern

I theory I should have rodding access, as the drawings the installers were working to showed where it needed to be, but if it is there they have buried them behind a plasterboard/plastered wall which was then clad in tongue and groove - done before I had a chance to say 'hold on that was...

Weird things going on with Canova Royal WC and Geberit cistern

I had a bathroom installed a couple of years ago, by some (it has become apparent for other reasons) mediocre installers. I have always had blocking issues with this loo, but not another one that I had installed at the same time - but put that down to me rather then the loo and that there is...

Hi Skenk, Id be interested to know of any cabinet makers etc in Glasgow if you could give me their details. Im still thinking to do the work myself now, but havent started and may very well change my mind, and it would be good to have an option B. Thanks Sandals

At my wits end on how to get a quote?

Hi all, no I wasnt the one to post a similar thing a few months back, but boy I could of,as I was just as frustrated about it then as I am now. I do try not to time waste as I do kind of, in a round about way, work in the trade and so I know how annoying that can be. Im also totaly aware that...

    Screw recessed and head worn

This might seem a bit drastic, but is there anyway you could cut the handles off from the front of the drawers without damaging the front finish (a thin metal hacksaw blade?) and then push/twist the screws out backwards, from the front. If the handles are all being dumped anyway you dont need to...

At my wits end on how to get a quote?

Wow, so I have to play dumb in order to be trusted? Are you sure or am I just misunderstanding whats being said here I do hope at least its not because Im a women, and its just the bit about knowing what I want and having drawings. If so Im gobsmacked, I thought that we'd all gotten past that...

At my wits end on how to get a quote?

Thanks SNM.....kettle is always on and tea and coffee offered.....I think I might have worked out what it is. I tend to know exactly what I want and normally have a drawing and material spec to hand (but always make it clear that I happy to change stuff if they think it can be done better...

    Screw recessed and head worn

If you manage to hit it dead centre you might be lucky to get the whole screw out, but if you just off centre the head will probably loosen and either drop or be able to be wiggled off. Each screw will be totoally different, so dont rush it.

At my wits end on how to get a quote?

I dont know what Im doing wrong and was curious to know your thoughts on this. Ive been doing up a flat, on my own, for the last three years and have on numerous occasions asked different trades to come and quote on jobs for me. In general the jobs are approx around the £1K mark. Most of the...

    Screw recessed and head worn

I had to drill out a load of rusted in 200 year old screws in some old shutters, so it was solid timber, not sure what your drawers are made from Used a drill bit that was just big enough to go through the middle of the head of the screw , so that came off completly and then had to dig around...

Laying new wooden floor over old timber flooring

Hi, Ive been dipping in and out of DIYnot over the last couple of years, and boy has it been helpful. Now is the time for me to ask a question and Im hoping someone can clarify something for me. There seems to be alot of chat about lying floors onto concrete but not onto old timber boards, and...
