    Cavity lintel v RSJ query

Hi Siwriderby I’ve sent a query to Keystone re a lintel, but agree with you that RSJ would be a preferred option, especially as u say it will be plastered in. Design loads for the ridge beam 4.86kN/m (does that sound right) I have asked the calcs guy but he’s not replied unfortunately...

    Damp Proof Membrane Question

Hi All I’m after some advice if possible, We are just starting to build a small extension and have an issue relating to ground levels on one side of the proposed extension because next doors drive slopes upwards which means the ground there is 3-4 courses higher than the internal floor level...

Thanks for the thought but We have no idea where the water pipe actually runs outside and don't want to be digging the drive etc up. plus we have a water meter just as it enters the house so can only take a feed off after the supply to that?

New water supply to detached garage

Hi We have just built a new garage about 5 metres from the property and want to connect an electric shower (to wash the dogs). We have had the electrics done (inc a feed for a 7.5kw shower) but need to work out how best to connect off the existing water supply where it comes from the house to...

Which Lintel do we need for our garage windows?

We've gone for 1200mm concrete lintels over the Windows as the trussses do sit on the wall plate which is sat on the block wall. I guess once the brick walls are in we can look at whether to amend the sizing of the opening or the Windows. Hopefully the load will sit over the two skins equally...

Which Lintel do we need for our garage windows?

We were going to put in double glazed windows, fortunately not ordered yet so sizing can be amended. Would a single skin L lintel be as effective or maybe a corrugated one? I guess the brickie would install whatever is best? Thanks

Which Lintel do we need for our garage windows?

Hi The roof plate is 4" wide and 2" depth. The Windows are to be 900mm wide and were to be 500mm deep but will now be less if a lintel is required. Any advice gratefully received Thanks Lisa

Hi all, We are in the process of building a new garage and a brickie is going to face our block walls and build pillars and apex etc.. we have left three 500x900 gaps for Windows on the block wall immediately below the roof plate. There is to be no cavity as such between the block and brick...

    Help please!

I haven't asked the second chap to fit the receiver or anything. I've asked him generally about the attitude of the installer and he was of the view he's being an arse because he didn't like us questioning why things didn't go to plan?! Think your first suggestion is correct! It's Nothing...

    Help please!

What do you mean 're the Electrician not being able to do that legally? Who will do that then? To be fair it was organised, I can't think how I could have been any clearer about what was what but for whatever reason the plumber didn't engage his brain about various things and seemed to think it...

    Help please!

Fortunately the second plumber ran the pipe at just below cupboard height which meant it was not necessary to plaster over it. Not that the first plumber will do anything to resolve the problem anyhow. His response is , I quote 'its your problem how you sort it cos I ain't coming back end of'

    Help please!

Sorry I didn't respond to one question. I didn't have a small works contract as you put it but it was very simple. We wanted a New combi boiler to replace boiler and tank system , within this it was necessary to remove pump for shower and 'repipe it and also move position of New boiler about...

    Help please!

Hi, Thanks for your replies, very helpful :-) In response to the questions asked: I didn't know there were going to be issues when I paid him in full. I trusted he would return if needed. That was my first mistake! As far as I was concerned he knew where everything was goin in the kitchen...
