    Kettling/banging when system drained

Did you read the post? I filled the system up, and bled all the air out of the rads, so it probably had some air in it, but by no means was the system running empty. I don't even think the boiler would start if the pressure was zero.

    Kettling/banging when system drained

Hi guys I've had this once before, when I drained my system, once the system was filled and air from the rads removed, and the boiler turned on, it would make banging noises for about 30min-1hr. It also leaked small amounts for about a day. Now, I'm not GAS registered so I can't open it up...

    Joint Compound

Hi guys I have a BSP type fitting that connects the rad to the valve. This joint is a leaky bugger, and PTFE tape won't cut it. I am going to use some jointing compound with the PTFE tape and have some questions: 1. do I apply the compound first, and then wrap the PTFE tape over it, or is it...

    is sentinel x400 an inhibitor?

Hi guys I have drained down my system, done some pipework, and installed a new radiator. When filling and flushing the system for a 2nd time, I noticed sludge in the new radiator. I am thinking of adding sentinel x400, fill up and leave it for a few weeks and then flush it. My question is does...

    Garage Door recommendations

Hi Guys Anyone have any recommendations on a good garage door? I am currently inclined towards the Hormann sectional garage door, but I don't really have much experience in this field, so could use some advice. My primary requirement is that it must be well insulated and has good acoustic...

bricks+concrete blocks for a single leaf wall

Hi Guys, I have noticed that some builds use masonry bricks for the first two or three layers, and then use concrete blocks for the rest of the wall, whereas other builds use concrete blocks from bottom to top. What is the difference between the two techniques ? and when should one be used over...

    Garage Foundation

Hi Guys I am planning on building a garage, and would like to know what kind of foundation I will need. I am aware that usually one builds trenches for a normal extension or build, but since this is a garage, I suspect I may have to lay down a complete foundation.

    drimaster HEAT wiring

Been using mine for about three years, hasn't failed me once. But yes, I need to get me a fluke. Thanks; quite disheartening if there is no over-current protection; paid 300 quid for the job, and it was from a niceic registered chap who looked like he knew what he was doing. I might just learn...

    drimaster HEAT wiring

Yes; put it on the wire, and it lights up if it has voltage.

    drimaster HEAT wiring

Sheesh; you guys are having a field day here. I think its fair to say the entire system needs an overhaul, and that is on the todo list; not to worry. So, I've got a problem. I am now testing the wiring for the stairway switch (which will feed the fan/heater). Problem is, this switch is part of...

    drimaster HEAT wiring

Attached a better image of the CUs. I don't think its connected to any of the CUs. I *think* I remember once turning off the black and white CUs and the shower circuit was still powered until I flicked the RCD.

    drimaster HEAT wiring

Yeh, all the sparks say that. I'll get a sparky in for the job. What's the need for the RCD and why won't the current setup suffice ?

    drimaster HEAT wiring

Oh, right. I think that is already done; if by that you mean there is an MCB/RCD in the CU which you can pop to isolate the upstairs lighting, then yes, that's already in place.

    drimaster HEAT wiring

Cool; may need to get an electrician in for that bit; never done an RCD before. How would I get the T&E from the attic to the CU anyway ?

    drimaster HEAT wiring

Thanks for the informative replies guys. Thanks for the diagram. After Iggifer mentioned grid switches, I was already looking into DPs and was planning on doing something like that but also add a light DP to that. You mentioned the RCD if the cable is buried; what if I run the cable down the...
