    thanks for your info softus, I think that was to tell if you have mains or low pressure cold water and how balanced the hot and cold are.... but i guess theres no point if I know I have a cold storage tank and hot water cylinder already :D

    if there is a difference in quality can you explain what is different between a cheaper and more expensive one. And what is more likely to fail in a 'cheaper' one, is it the thermostat part? To a lay person, it seems the internals aren't that complicated so just wondering what would go wrong...

    thanks for your comments, what would be the best way to remove the damaged planks? They are glued together. A Circular saw or some other tool? The house is about 17 years old so the builders guarantee has expired I think. Also how would I secure the new boards if the tongues and grooves...
