Thanks very much to everyone for all the excellent and helpful responses. They really clarified my totally muddy ideas on the subject. Poison is certainly a path to avoid. But the traps with their cholesterol rich additions sound like just the way to go.
Many thanks again.
i agree, too much watching tom and jerry! :D
i like the mars bar trick - makes perfect sense! (unlike talking/dancing mice in T&J)
do cats really do the job, and how are they with rats?
many thanks for your input, everyone.
my friend did try traps with bits of cheese - which the mice happily left perfectly untouched! it's good to know peanuts and sausages might do the trick!

Thanks very much for all your input.
I will certainly get a NTE-5 master socket.
In the meantime ... just trying some more combinations.
"There should be 3 wires connected for the extension": which 3 would that be and in which slots do they need to go?

Hello,
walking past what looks like my BT master telephone socket today I brushed against it and :( off comes the top. Some wiring must have come loose in the process because at first, the main socket still seemed to be working, but the extension in another room was dead.
I then...
Thanks for your replies! So it looks much worse than it is .. ! phew. I feel quite relieved, was starting to see myself getting charcoaled whilst in my sleep!
But has the insulation been damaged? And could that be 'repaired'? Or can I just leave it as is (and stop worrying)?
Thanks again.
