Damp that seems to be coming through the gable wall

The other issue that we have is there is a solid wall that runs perpendicular to the gable wall separating the front room from the kitchen. The damp spreads in across that wall too, how would that be remedied?

Damp that seems to be coming through the gable wall

What would have made it suddenly get worse after decades of being ok. Would it be double glazing (fitted 25-30 years ago) gas central heating (fitted about 25 years ago) it something else. I've attached some photos of the damp inside, would what you suggest be enough to cause this much damage?

Damp that seems to be coming through the gable wall

A relative needs some help, and I don't know the answers, so hoping for some advice to feedback. They don't have much spare money and there house is getting to be a bit of a state due to damp. A few years ago they had an issue with damp. Somebody looked into it and it turned out to be a burst...

    Washing machine makes clothes smell

We've got an LG washing machine, probably about 2-3 years old now. It has started to smell and leaves clothes smelling. I've searched on the internet and tried everything I can find to no avail. The clothes are left with a bit of a fusty smell, the smell is made worse by heating the clothes...

    Thoughts on 13A induction hob

Gas currently costs me around 5p per kWh. Electricity costs me around 7p per kWh. So with the losses from gas the electric should be cheaper. That doesn't take into account export, and it is reliant on not spending much time over the inverter limit.

    Rad rusted through

To be fair on the company, after sending the photos there was a few days delay and then the next I knew was a delivery notification coming through saying that my radiator would be delivered on Friday (today) - so it looks like they've just decided to send a replacement out. It should arrive...

    Thoughts on 13A induction hob

I'm probably a little different to the norm here. We currently have a gas hob that is about ready to be replaced - it is 17 years old, still functions but is looking worn and the plastic screw covers have gone brittle and broken. We are changing the worktops hence the timing to replace. I'm...

Still waiting for an answer, they replied to ask for photos - which I then provided but no reply since (weekend though) - I'll update once (if) I do get a proper reply.

    Water softener

Hmm, the pipe work in my house looks to complicated to work in that fashion. I could bypass the kitchen sink but everything else would be softened including the heating system (vented conventional) and the outside taps.

I am honestly expecting some kind of response like that!

    Water softener

We live in area which has water classed as hard water. I'm looking into whether it is worth fitting some kind of water softener for the whole house. Someone recently told me I should go for one of the electric ones that requires no plumbing. It looks like you just wrap wires around the pipe...

    Rad rusted through

I've managed to find the purchase details now. It says it has a lifetime guarantee. I have emailed the company and will await their excuses!

    Rad rusted through

That was my suspicion, the only positive I could give it quality wise was that it was heavy. Externally it all looked good but didn't like the best inside. I think it had a 25 year warranty but I can't find the paperwork now and I'm betting they would wriggle out of it anyway. I'm tempted to...

    Rad rusted through

It started with a pinhole leak with a little rusting around it, I would presume that it rusted from inside to out. The point where it leaked wouldn't get hit by anything as it was recessed in. We don't put anything on this radiator, we don't dry clothes on it etc, it just heats the room.

    Rad rusted through

We had an extension built 3 years ago. As part of this we had 2 radiators installed - one went where one used to be and one went in the new area. The one in the new area has been fine but the one that was replaced has rusted through. When the radiators were added, inhibitor was added to...
