    How many props...

Thanks guys, interesting discussion... it seems about 5 props should do just fine if done properly.

    How many props...

I have some builders doing a single storey rear extension and because I do not want to rely only on their "experience" (last job I did this, last job I did that) I thought I'd post this question here. They are going to knock through the rear wall of the a mid terrace house to make an opening...

    External finish for a dormer

Yes, I do have building regs approval and the calcs for the structure were made by a qualified SE, however I made the drawings myself thus seeking for advice on those things. Party wall agreement is in place, I've got good relationship with neighbours and they suggested me doing this with lead...

    External finish for a dormer

I am in the process of doing a loft conversion and have a question about the outside finish to one of the sides of the dormer. It's a stud wall approx 3.2m long and 2.2m to 0m high. Because my dormer will be built right next to my next door neighbour's dormer the space between them will be very...

    Options for soil stack pipe

It was supposed to be full width but because I will need to leave a small gap to have access to the side alleyway I guess that would be an option then... your question came in as a suggestion ;)

    Options for soil stack pipe

it's a mid terrace house... so I guess if I was to do it I would need to build a stud wall to hide the stack... it's still better to loose 150mm+ of internal space than having the pipe right in the middle of the extension though I like the idea of pole dancers :sneaky:

    Options for soil stack pipe

I do have proper drawings but can't have access to them right now.. I've done some quick drawings of what I wanted to achieve. Left is current design, right is proposed with rear extension and loft conversion.

    Options for soil stack pipe

Hi, I'm working on the design of my single storey rear extension in a mid terrace house. A question that I guess I know the answer but don't want to believe this is the only option I have is regarding the soil stack pipe that runs at the back of the house. The extension is going to be full...

Public Liability Insurance for "diy" job

I agree that £32k is not bad but since I can do most of the work myself I was expecting to save at least 30% of that by having someone to do the bits I cannot do such as the dormer shell with flat root. To my surprise the builders out there are not happy with smallish jobs (just don't get how a...

Public Liability Insurance for "diy" job

After getting very disappointed with builders coming up with the most ridiculous excuses to charge a fortune to build the shell of a dormer for my loft conversion I have decided that I am going to employ a couple of experienced guys to do this job for me. Just to illustrate my frustration, a...

Fascia 75mm - where to find?

well... the rotten piece of wood where the gutter is fixed to looks like a fascia to me... I'll try and go up the ladder when it's dry to take a couple of pics anyway, thank you all for the good advice, it's helped me a lot so far

Fascia 75mm - where to find?

are you suggesting that I should buy a 100mm board and just install without cutting it? @danielroofer --- thanks for the tips, I've got a handsaw but know my abilities to cut things straight are not great... so if I really have to cut the boards I'll probably invest in a power tool.. thanks again

Fascia 75mm - where to find?

Thanks catlad and danielroofer, I am no roofer but feel more than capable of doing that job (replace all the stuff). As I am fairly new to this country I found that a bit unusual to have fascia which size is impossible to find a replacement. Furthermore my two neighbours had their fascia...

Fascia 75mm - where to find?

I am going to replace the fascia, soffits and guttering of my terraced house. I was checking everything I need to buy and I found myself stuck with the size of the fascia boards. I measured the existing fascia and they are 75mm... this is from the top near the tiles to the bottom of the...
