Hi,
I am planning to install a free-standing deck next to my house on top of some existing gravel.
There are three layers of red engineering bricks that form the DPC showing above the level of the gravel. There are little plastic air vents between some of the bricks on the second layer.
I...
Thanks John for your detailed responses.
I will discuss with an electrician some testing and the possibility of replacing the RCD and/or using RCBOs.

John,
Oh, I see what you were asking now!
Yes, when my neighbour uses the strimmer she does pulse it quite a lot. From memory I would say the trip happens either on pulling or releasing the trigger of the strimmer, not while it is continuously running.
I have borrowed her strimmer once...
My consumer unit is in the kitchen, the meter is in an outside cupboard.
Attached another photo which hopefully shows where the cables go.
The cables that exit to the left go to the consumer unit AFAIK.
I guess the cables that exit to the bottom are the earths?
I'd say there is a 50-75% of my RCD tripping when my neighbour strims the grass.
I am often away at the weekends, so I am not always able to monitor the situation. I'd say it doesn't trip immediately, but usually happens after a few minutes. Last October when I was actually at home, I...
Thanks for all the responses!
The only external wiring I have is for a porch light and a floodlight, but they are wired just through the house walls (no long cable runs). There are no external water pipes.
I live in a cluster home - 3 houses 'stuck' together. The neighbour whose strimming...
Hi,
I have a problem with nuisance tripping where my consumer unit trips when my neighbour strims her lawn. It doesn't happen every time and doesn't happen when she mows the lawn - only when she uses the strimmer. This has been going on (and off!) for the entire time I've been in the house -...
I am keen to finish the job, so I'd rather not get it re-skimmed if it is not really necessary. Please forgive my ignorance, but what does skimming wallboard achieve? Is it primarily to sort out the joins between boards? Other than the joins it looks like a good surface to work with.
The area...
Hi,
I have had something of a (common?) disaster when stripping wallpaper - the skim layer of plaster also came off.
Everything was fine on the walls. The problems started when I came to the bay window which is of wood construction. Here the skim layer came away easier than the paper...
