    Hot water too hot

Hi, I have battery storage at my house. When I turned on the immersion (as an experiment this afternoon), the battery inverter showed me that the immersion was drawing 3kW. I left it for 20mins, just to see if the immersion would just go on for a few minutes before the thermostat switched it off...

    Hot water too hot

Just to clarify - when the immersion is off and we heat the water via the oil boiler, the water just gets hotter and hotter. Today, I tried the immersion heater (with the oil boiler switched off to see if that helped to rule out the thermostat (on the oil boiler side of things). Despite turning...

    Hot water too hot

Hi, our mains water was off for 4 days due to several bursts in the water main. When the water was off, we tried a few times each day to see if it was working, however the taps were sucking air in. Once the mains water was restored, our hot water has been scolding hot. I don't know if it is a...

Screws or Nails - Solid wood floor

Hi Dave, would it cause problems in the future if I used a vapour barrier with a particle board sub floor?

Screws or Nails - Solid wood floor

Going to glue it together as a floating floor. Any recommendations for underlay? Currently looking at novostrat sonic gold that includes a vapour barrier (we have particle board floor). Does that sound OK, if so 3mm or 5mm think? For ground floor. Thanks

Screws or Nails - Solid wood floor

Are you saying that I should not be installing engineered flooring over particle board whatsoever? That is totally different to advice from the shops. If nail/screw down is not appropriate for particle board and I decide to either glue (floating floor) or glue down I understand that I need...

Screws or Nails - Solid wood floor

I would prefer to nail/screw it down. Is a particle board floor suitable for this? What type of moisture barrier would you use? Thanks

Screws or Nails - Solid wood floor

I am also a bit confused about this - I am about to buy t&g engineered flooring and am getting different advice from different shops, and different advice from one shops website's FAQ and what the staff say. We have a particle board floor - is it best to lay it as a floating floor, glue down...

    Low voltage lighting questions

Thanks for the replies: Yes they are 12volt lights. You say to extend the cables between transformer and light it 'needs to be done properly' - is that as in using terminal blocks instead of a botching them together :D

    Low voltage lighting questions

Hi - I am hoping to install/have installed low voltage lighting under my kitchen units: The kit I am thinking about comes with transformer and 3 lights (with 1 metre of cable each). - 1 metre of cable is not enough - is it ok to extend the cables (by cutting them and inserting a longer...
