Just to resurrect this one - surely the room thermostat just triggers a solenoid for the main circuit - does it need anything more than 3 or 4 core bell wire? the thermostat instructions are great - if you want to know how to wire it for 50 different combi boilers, but no good at telling me...

I hadn't, no just the obvious suspects - wickes, screfix etc. thanks for that age is in the mind btw ;)

but i can't get 4mm anywhere anymore... what am i meant to use - 6mm? bit excessive, surely!
