Just to resurrect this one - surely the room thermostat just triggers a solenoid for the main circuit - does it need anything more than 3 or 4 core bell wire?

the thermostat instructions are great - if you want to know how to wire it for 50 different combi boilers, but no good at telling me what cable to get into the wall before the plasterer comes ahead of the boiler man!

btw, i need to do this Sunday ahead of the man coming to fill me in on Monday!

Mains rated flat 3C+E cable like you use in 2 way lighting circuit will do the trick for almost every eventuality, I definitely would not contemplate using bell wire.

run two twin and earths - if the boiler is a volt free type one pair will be mains and one will be volt free control.

remember if you fluff it up and the boiler is volt free then you will probably blow the pcb on the boiler, not a popular move

if you bite the bullet and get an electrician in (who knows about central heating electrics) you may save more than you could spend if things go wrong.

use 3C+E. not twin brown as suggested because some stats require neutral (and then you would have to replace cable

i seem to remember suggesting 2 twin and earths- thus 4 cores + earth, just incase 3 is not enough.
