Hi All,
I had two twin wall flues (5 inch diameter x 900 mm long) fitted to replace my two chimney stack just over two years ago by a local builder. The flues were protected by a rubber/ steel flashing to make watertight.
Could anyone tell me how long this system will typically stay...
Andy,
Thanks for the reply. If I assume my 11 ft x 8 ft equates to 9 sq metres, then that would make the cost £162.00 using the worst scenario of £18.
The first quote I had was £725 the second £600 !
Any thoughts on why there's such a massive difference between the numbers ?
All the...
Hi All,
Was looking to get an approx feel for what it would cost to get a contractor in to sort out my gable end bedroom wall. The wall itself is approx 11 ft wide x 8 ft high and the chimney breast on this wall has given previous problems of dampness, hygroscopic salts etc ;

Following this message from 2007, I employed a local builder to remove both chimney breasts above our slate line in December 2011. The work involved new batting, felting, slates and gutters with twin walled flue pipes/flashing added to take care of my gas fires.
Six months has passed and I...
Hi,
I am trying to find out if I can remove the top part of my damp chimney stack above the slate line and vent the above fire/boiler through a Class 2 stainless steel flue pipe ie the flue pipe would replace the top of the chimney after removal. I have spoken to a couple of plumbers and...
Folks,
Looking for a recommendation for a good masonary 'paint' (water seal) to stop rainwater soaking into my rendering / brickwork. Thomson's Water Seal has been mentioned but not sure how good this is and if there is anything better on the marketplace.
Any recommendations would be...
I have what appears to be damp staining on the wall of my upstairs bedroom. I have been told that the rendering on the chimney stack adjoining this wall is in a poor state. A roofing contractor has quoted me £400 to re-render the stack and replace the flashing.
I asked him about dropping...
