This is the e mail response from Endon
"This is a common characteristic of this type of transformer; a toroid.
Usually the electrician sorts them out so we don’t put advice in the fitting instructions.
In 99% of the cases a type C breaker sorts out the problem, a type D which I...
It surprised me and I would have expected a warning in the fitting instructions. However the technical department at Endon advised me of this. Has any electrician out there fitted a light fitting from Endon with 12 x 20 watt low voltage halogens and a transformer without the need to replace the...
The Cat C MCB seems to be coping now, it has only tripped out twice. If it trips more frequently I will try the dimmer suggestion. If that fails maybe I'll move house. Thanks for everyone's help.
My Potterton boiler is constantly tripping out, there is sometimes a spark arcing from the ignition wire where it is nicked, could this be the problem and if so would a covering of insulating tape suffice.

Having viewed the IQ dimmer through the above link this seems to be a logical solution. Will wait and see what bernardgreen's contact says then tackle the issue. Thanks.
Thought you might say that, won't go any further until an electrician has tested system. Thanks for your advice. Do you know where I can buy hair straighteners!?( Just kidding)
Acted before reading further posts, still alive! Have replaced Hager B6 MCB with Hager C6 MCB as Endon advise that the transformer causes high in rush current and requires either Cat C or Cat D. With Cat C in place there is less tripping but still some. Will therefore try Cat D.
The MCB make is Hager, from recollection it does not just slot in, it is attached by screws. The Circuit Board was installed in Jan 1994 when house was rewired. Does this tell you enough or should I wait until I get home?
Sorry to be vague but I am not at home at the moment, the cable seems to be standard domestic lighting cable, twin & earth in grey sheath approx 1 cm wide.
I have just replaced a ceiling light with an Endon fitting, this fitting has
12 x 20 watt halogen bulbs and a built in transformer. The light works most of the time but occassionally the 5 amp MCB trips out (even when this is the only operating light on the circuit) . Is it safe to uprate this...
