    So that screw was in some rubber inside the tap, and I've stripped/ pulled off the rubber so the tap handle is useless now

    Ah, so I found out why is wasn't coming off. They unscrew, I couldn't unscrew them as they were so close to the wall, I've basically ruined one levering it off ! So beware anyone with mixer taps.

    Thanks, tried the kettle and it didn't work. I'm starting to scratch and chip the metal now trying to leverage it off with a screw driver wrapped in cloth. Neither tap will budge.
