Finished Floor level way above DPC

The wall was my neighbours garage which finished on the boundary. He has demolished the garage but left the wall in situ. I'm infilling between my house and the wall with a new floor and roof and enclosing each end with new walls. Do you think a bitumen DPM vertically on the wall would be ok...

Finished Floor level way above DPC

It's for a utility room and toilet so I wanted a solid floor. I googled Jablite Hardcore Replacement Boards, basically 100mm EPS with extra compressive strength. Have you come across these, do you think I could build up from below DPC with a DPM under and up the wall?

Finished Floor level way above DPC

Thanks 23CV. I have added another sketch to hopefully show the problem more clearly. You can see that the new DPM will be above the existing DPC, allowing damp to penetrate into the wall. I,m not sure of the best way to deal with that to prevent damp in the wall?

Finished Floor level way above DPC

Hi I am extending at the side of the house up to an existing solid 9" brick wall. The wall has a DPC but due to sloping ground my FFL will be 440mm above it. I will go for 65mm Screed on top of 100mm concrete but that leaves me with 275mm to make up. How should this be done? Do I just use extra...

Can I put a door in this wall?

I am hoping to put a door in this wall to access the pantry behind it. The current door is in the kitchen to the right but is akward to use. The wall finishes below the first floor landing at the top of the stairs which return from a half landing to finish above the wall. The section of wall is...

Great, I'll go for fibres and get on with it, this has been bugging me for a while now, thankfully I found this site where I can ask the experts.

    Concrete Slab - levelling query

OK thanks both of you for your advice. I have made a gauge that sits on top of the masonrey which will allow me to physically check the level when the markings become obscured and I will go with tamping for the middle section. P.S. -Would the addition of fibres to the mix make it more...

    Concrete Slab - levelling query

House extension floor slab approx 8m x 5m My brickwork is up to DPC level and I am ready to have the concrete delivered for the floor slab. As the concrete will be finishing below the DPC level (to allow for insulation and screed) I am looking for advice on the best way to ensure the concrete...

    Floor Slab - Mesh Required?

Thanks both for your response Gary - I see your point, my slab is contained within the inner leaf blockwork and bears onto the hardcore, so presumably less liklehood of movement and cracking Oldun - my mistake, drawing does show VB on top of insulation  then screed. It is...

    Floor Slab - Mesh Required?

Hello All - 1st post - here goes New extension to rear of the house, approx 8m x 5m. I am ready to have floor slab concrete poured onto DPM. Neither my drawings nor Building Control have requested reinforcing mesh be put into the concrete. Does this sound Ok :?: - I am concerned about...
