I have just spoken with City and Guilds and they have informed me that in order to take exams etc in Level 2 NVQ etc you have to attend a training establishment who provide the training and cannot simply work in the indusrty and build up a portfolio as some have suggested and then request...

I think im with you now....So basically all I need to do is work with my Dad...get him to train me in all aspects of the City and Quilds qualifications then complete assesments with them?

So to enable you to undertake relevant exams (i.e NVQ/ City and Guilds)you have to have worked in the trade for a min of 5 years?

We have discussed this however I can't do it due to my other works commitments (basically can't afford to quit current job) as you are required to attend one week in every three. The OCLI course allows you to attend workshops at times when it suits you.
