Agreed, although I don't see any problem in changing the temp probe or in pulling the lead off the temp probe on a stone cold boiler while checking the flow pipe with my hand to make sure it's not overheating...

Thanks for your advice but I'm not sure how I am being a prat. I didn't say I had left the boiler running without the temp probe connected. The boiler isn't being used at the minute and won't be until next weekend so I was merely asking if there was a common, simple fix that anyone might know...

Managed to find what the replacement pump part number was and get hold of one. Is a Grundfos 15-60 pump and it has a 3 speed setting and the auto air vent built in. Setting 2 was equivalent to the old Wilo pump but with it on setting 3 all problems are sorted. Everything heats up quicker and...

The heating works - with the original pipework - just fine so unfortunately that isn't an option. This isn't about getting the landlord to replace though, it's about me replacing the pump for a more powerful one...
