Hi.

Recently got a problem with the boiler. The LED's on the front panel are always on and so the boiler thinks that the chw temp is too high and cuts out (it does this even when stone cold).

Removing the lead to the temperature probe allows the boiler to fire and run as normal.

Only problem now is that the boiler runs constantly (because it now thinks that the water is too cold - anti freeze protection?)

I've replaced the temp probe but still the same issue. Any ideas? Could it be the PCB or is there anything else I can check before calling someone out?

Many thanks in advance

Do'nt be a prat, and just get someone out, you are potentailly messing with components designed for safety, and you could harm yourself and others around you.
GET SOMEONE OUT!!!

Thanks for your advice but I'm not sure how I am being a prat. I didn't say I had left the boiler running without the temp probe connected.

The boiler isn't being used at the minute and won't be until next weekend so I was merely asking if there was a common, simple fix that anyone might know of before I called an engineer out...

I understand that people giving advice on here will err on the side of caution when dealing with gas appliances but we aren't all brainless idiots with no idea of safety..!

You may not be , but there are millions of people reading these posts.
Are you are saying what you did is ok?

No amount of money is worth your safety, If you're not a prat, you're a bodgitanscarper then

Agreed, although I don't see any problem in changing the temp probe or in pulling the lead off the temp probe on a stone cold boiler while checking the flow pipe with my hand to make sure it's not overheating...

If you must fiddle with it then it woulkd be better for you to be measuring the resistance of the sensor at different temperatures!

Since the temperature is "read" by the pcb then that could well be at fault.

Its questionable that its worth replacing on such an old ( and poor ) boiler.

Just to follow up... The replacement temp probe was faulty. Got another one and everything is working as expected.

Many thanks to those who took the time to reply.

Be safe when it comes to gas, do'nt take chances, but well done for doing it,
You safety is the most important requirement.
Thanks for letting us know the outcome.

I would never touch the gas side of things but changing a probe I can manage!

Thanks
