Thanks for the input Alastair, the ladder came with some plastic trim but its too small to cover the gap. I plan to make some moulding out of the few floor boards i took up to cut the hole

Just fitted a wooden folding loft ladder as i want easy access for storage and also want to upgrade the insulation. i did not even think to consult the council over building regs :? have i broken any rules? Here are some photos of the installation and a picture of the mess i have to clean up
