Thanks everyone - used a short haired roller as recommended and it went on and dried a treat. Cracking satin finish.

Brush marks in my osmo oil oak parquet flooring

Ok you experts what's the secret? I bought an Osmo oil floor brush to do my oak parquet and did not put it on too thickly, it dried in about 7 hours (hard enough to walk on in my socks) but had a shed load of brush marks in it. I waited until this morning, sanded them out and applied the next...

parquet blocks - where to start

Well, I eventually started laying the blocks and laid about 2 sq mtrs but could not keep them tight so I took them up and tried again and had the same problem. When I looked closely it appeared that some were wider than others so I measured a fair few and they varied some were 70mm, some...

parquet blocks - where to start

Just did a dry run - how simple and straight forward. As you say get them nice and tight and you're away. Thanks for the tip matty. When laid and the glue has gone off so they don't move do you carry on laying as suggested by WoodYouLike i.e. 2 or 3 blocks wide all the way down the room and...

parquet blocks - where to start

Sounds good, I will dry lay some and stick together with tape and take a look. When you say about half a metre do you mean just 2 rows (blocks) wide in a cheveron pattern, which would be long and thin, or do you mean several rows wide and more of a ragged square if you get my drift.

parquet blocks - where to start

2 1/4 thick, wow that sounds like small gate posts to me! Mine are 230 x 70 x 20.

parquet blocks - where to start

Thanks for that. I've never heard of the taping method - what are the advantages of starting this way over the more conventional way described by WoodYouLike? I would prefer to use a plunge saw but trying to find a hire firm that supplies them and a rail ain't easy. I have my own 1 1/2 hp...

parquet blocks - where to start

Thanks again WoodYouLike it. Just one more question, once you have laid the two pattern rows and they have bonded do you continue by laying two more rows all the way down the room and then keep repeating? Re borders - if you haven't got one of those posh plunge saws and a rail, I...

parquet blocks - where to start

Thanks for your response WoodYouLike. The adhesive is Lecol 5500 and I have the correct trowel thanks. Re "install the first 2 pattern rows" - should I run the first 2 pattern rows all the way down the length of the room before continuing?

parquet blocks - where to start

Hi I am about to lay a parquet block floor and have read many of the various threads on the subject. The blocks are new and the floor is concrete and flat. I am aware that the first block is the most important one as clearly all of the others "square" from it so to speak and I have chalked a...

Laying parquet - the fiddly bits

Thanks for your swift response and help. I note from other posts that you have a festool plunge saw that you use for skirtings. What do you use for cutting laid blocks prior to adding the border? Oh by the way I assume that you continue the border at right angles with a mitre when you get...

Laying parquet - the fiddly bits

Good evening everyone. I have been going through various threads re laying parquet on concrete screeded floors and I am about to lay one in the hall which is approx 13 sq M using 20mm thick european prime oak blocks. I would like to hire an under cutter for the skirting and put a 2 block wide...

    tiles for wooden floors

Hi I'm a newk and have been reading a lot of the posts re tiling on wooden floors and good they were too. I want to do my upstairs bathroom floor but I do have a couple of questions for the experts though - if there are threads that I have missed that have already covered some of these then...
