Fire regulations Loft conversion and extension

Thanks. Just found a letter from the loft company from back then explaining that a conservatory is a no no because the fire brigade couldn’t access the escape window. They mention that a small extension is an option provided access is possible. But would need to be advised Thanks everyone

Fire regulations Loft conversion and extension

Just a thought. Does that apply to conservatories beneath a fire escape vellux ?

Fire regulations Loft conversion and extension

I always had my suspicions. Even below Velux that is specifically an escape ? I remember the conversation and the architect said it’s because the fire brigade may need to mount a ladder as they can’t get a cherry picker in the back garden. I’ve read plenty of regs, yawn, around this and indeed...

Fire regulations Loft conversion and extension

I have a 3 bed detached property with a loft conversion. The loft was added in 2001. I vaguely remember being told that we couldn’t add a ground floor extension under the Velux loft window that was, in effect, a fire escape window. This was due to the need for ladder access by the fire brigade...

Drayton Wiser controller fires boiler when turned on-Cant turn boiler off

They just call it The Smart Thermostat. It uses the existing wires to switch heat on and off. Have to say it works very well and is very accurate. The Drayton 722 likes it as well.

Drayton Wiser controller fires boiler when turned on-Cant turn boiler off

As far as i can tell but I'm feeling paranoid enough that Ive asked him to start from scratch. Its really difficult to fault or test circuits as it is to get a full picture, literally. And its a small cupboard. I'm a believer in starting from a clean slate in situations like this. I would have...

Drayton Wiser controller fires boiler when turned on-Cant turn boiler off

To be honest Ian it’s a complete rats nest and not in any laid out wiring centre. It was done in 2003 when had a loft conversion and unvented system installed. I would be embarrassed to show my face if I’d installed it. I’ll take pictures and you can see. But make sure you’re not eating. The...

Drayton Wiser controller fires boiler when turned on-Cant turn boiler off

Fitted the replacement Wiser Controller but still the same issue. So I did a bit more experimentation. If I separate the two wires in the old thermostat the boiler stops. I then remover the HW and CH call for heat wires from the wall plate (3&4) so the only wires going to the controller are live...

Drayton Wiser controller fires boiler when turned on-Cant turn boiler off

I get the boiler firing up straight away as the wired room thermostat is effectively on maximum being shorted out in the wall. But not the fact that the Wiser controller doesn't appear to turn it off even though the Wiser thermostat is below the room temp. Anyway, its on its way back to Amazon...

It seems obvious I know, but that's my thought as well (y)

Drayton Wiser controller fires boiler when turned on-Cant turn boiler off

My system is an unvented S plan with a trusty Potterton Profile 50e boiler I have a Drayton 722 controller at present so the Wiser Controller is a like for like swap. But as soon as I turn the controller on the boiler fires up and the radiators get hot. There are no lights in the CH or even the...

Hot Water Firing Boiler yet Timer is OFF

Chris The rad in the bathroom is directly connected to the hot water. I should have said towel rail :D

Hot Water Firing Boiler yet Timer is OFF

Yes, sorry, it’s an S plan and I have a HW valve as well. It’s an unvented system with an old fashioned, but brilliant, Potterton Profile boiler. Rads do not get hot just the hot water system.

Hot Water Firing Boiler yet Timer is OFF

I've got my excellent local plumber coming round asap but I was interested in any solutions you guys might suggest. This is a very intermittent error as its been 2 weeks since it last did it then stopped. My guy changed the HW 2 port valve in October when the fault was fairly solid. It seemed...

Sika or Easy Joint and pressure washing patio

I’ve always been a traditionalist and use cement and sand grout on my patio.it normally lasts well but I’ve decided to rake it out and replace. I could go with the usual damp sand and cement mix but I tried some Sika All weather grout on a small corner patio. Easy to use and it looks great...
