    New meter

Thanks for the advice John. Definitely need the isolator. There is a warren of CU's for various rooms, shower etc. all added after the original 4 way cu. It would make it easier to tidy up at some point without having to mess about pulling the main fuse.

    New meter

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'm guessing the guy fitting will be stretched for time. Just wondered if the isolator would be part of the process, but I guess not. I would like to get one done for future benefits. But from what Roo says it is likely to be a quick rip out and replace job...

    New meter

DNO want to replace my very old meter with a new one. Before I make an appointment wiht them, I wondered if there was any suggestions on other work to request they do at the same time. Only thing I can think of is fitting an isolator switch or will they do this as standard? Any thing else...

    Yet another bathroom fan question!

What is the tidy way to deal when two required. The bathroom has been split into two parts, shower room and bathroom. Both have own light and own fan from separate switches. Shower room out in hallway , bathroom using pullcord, in the room. Existing TP switch is outside in hallway and was...

    Bathroom extractor fan

Spark123 & RF, agree and would prefer to use another selv myself. But couldn't find one with a pull cord at the fan. That means either fitting one from the ceiling or switching on from the switch outside bathroom each time. Didn't fancy that, wet hands etc. Can anyone point me at a low...

    Bathroom extractor fan

Had a SELV fan die recently and want to know if it is ok to replace with a standard 240v unit. Power source is from the ring via a 3 amp fused spur and then a double pole switch all outside the bathroom. The fan is in zone 2 and is IP24 and operated by a pull cord so I think it...

    max lighting wattage

i am under pressure to fit some new light fittings which have multiple bulbs i.e. 6 x 40W and wondered what the maximum should be on a standard lighting ring(already got some in place). My memory of these in the past has been that bulbs tend to blow really regularly, and I wondered if this was...

    earthing light fittings

Thanks I'll have a look at one of those. Just thinking about how I'll fix it in. Ceiling is old lathe and plaster type, so pain to fix anything substantial into.

    earthing light fittings

The bulb holder is basically standard as per the pic, but there is no top part. It is a glass fly catcher type fitting hanging off chains attached to a flat metal fitting that the wire is threaded through. I have earth to the fitting ands have connected to the block, but it doesn't go to the...

    earthing light fittings

Hi guys, I've seen advice on the earthing of fittings which has left me wondering. If they are marked as double insulated, is it a good or bad thing to add an earth. I have two light fittings which are double square marked, but are just a plastic pendant fitting. Thing is they go into a...
