Also, to be fair ollski, there is a thing called "visual inspection" which is a major part of any servicing.
I have been in engineering 48 years and the last 35 in service - this is not rocket science. If just one service was done according to the WB Manual, all this could have been avoided...
Ok folks, update quicker then expected.
Got WB out on a fixed price repair £275.00 all in. They came out really quickly and replaced the Heat Cell and ancillary parts: as it had just blown the board fuse and was now dead, the fan was replaced as well. This was caused by the heat cell red...
I was going to flush it out this weekend, but it snowed! I'll do it tomorrow and put some X100 in.
I had the cover off this morning for a closer inspection (all isolated) and guess what, the burner gasket is perished - see .jpg. It has damaged the electrode cables and insulation's. No wonder...
If WB accreditation means nothing, it really makes it a lottery to find a competent engineer!
I'm assuming the pump is wired to the boiler correctly, as it always runs on to take the latent heat out of the system on shutdown.
Hi Hot & Cold.
I think a fixed price WB repair is about £350.00, new boiler about £800.00 and this one is 12 years old, so could be uneconomic as I don't know the life expectancy of these boxes. I would get another one, as I also think they are not bad.
The system is pretty clean and always had...
Thanks for your advice Gasguru.
I'm in the catch 22 situation: do I throw some more money at it and have the burner sorted and then see if the lockouts still occur, or, call it a day and replace it? I know that's up to me, the boiler is in mint condition, but also any major part replacement...
Hi all
I have a 12 year old WB Greenstar 18Ri boiler which has been serviced by the installer annually. It’s been flushed many times and has always had either Fernox or Sentinel X100 in it. A Salus filter was fitted about 2 ½ years ago.
It’s developed a problem where it would lockout at...
Sorry for late response Crashndie. My place is a four bedroom detached - not that big. I've found that by winding all other rads lockshields down (some only just open) and closing the TRV's down a bit as well, the coldest ones come up. The pump does not sound as if it's labouring, it was...
I have one radiator that will not get as hot as the others. The one nearby is also not very hot and in fact both were cold until I spent time playing with the valves on all the other rads.
It seems I have to shut the lockshield valves right down to only a quarter turn on all the other rads...
I'm sorry, I should have said that this cable run is for rear surround/5.1/home cinema speakers. I've not bought a system yet but I'm putting the cables in ready. I've read that rear speaker cables are not so fussy as they only convey effect.
I have some good cable for the front/centre...
What about doing a double run, i.e. 2x42 strands /channel. Would this give any benefit?
I probably won't try twisting, just avoid mains cables as much as possible.
I've bought some 42 strand speaker cable and I'm wondering about what benefit I would get if I split the conductors and twisted them. I've read this reduces interference/crosstalk problems. Is this true?
Also, would it benefit by doing a double run of twisted pairs to each channel.
The...
If I were to paint the walls Zampa, should I line horizontaly and then vertically as well, to cover properly, or will just horizontal cross lining cover o/k.
Why is 1000 easier then 1400, would it not stretch easier?
I know what you mean Spice, it is a bit dated and not easy to paint. I've never tried cross lining, how difficult is it? People say that it bubbles up and stretches, would this happen with a 1400 weight paper do you think?
