Sorry for the delay in replying to this - thought I'd give an update as a bit of closure in case anyone ends up in the same situation. Try as I might the leak wouldn't stop - it seemed to work its way out of unit in different ways no matter what I replaced, and so the more I became convinced...

Yep, no sign of them being blocked (got a bit wet in the process of checking but the water seemed to be flowing fine). Two - one on the run just before the hot water tank and the other on the run just before the pump. Forgot to say both were replaced as part of this (probably about two years ago)

All the electricians (so that's initial fitter, plus the two I called in to look at the problems) sealed them up all the way around the wall plate. Forgot to say in my last post that the ones I've put back this weekend, I've also left the underside open as an extra precaution.

Thanks for the comments all, it's taken me until this weekend to try things out. No Powerline adapters in use - I can't think of anything similar being used that could cause interference (only thing I can possibly think of is a mains wired house alarm but that's on a separate circuit if that...
