Thank you John and Dave 54. I have taken the jigsaw apart as I did so a tiny metal fragment fell out and a broken brush ! I have re assembled and it is now working. I will have to order some new brushes but so far all OK. As for the tiny metal fragment I could not locate its origins. Thank you...

Thank you John for your reply. The jigsaw has had very little use still looks like new the cable is sound, no burning smell when it stopped. Will dismantle and check brushes and switch as you advise. Thank you
