    Fireplace - no lintel, problem?

Thanks, that is helpful. So if I want to go higher than that I'd need supports before knocking any bricks out?

    Fireplace - no lintel, problem?

I am opening up an old blocked up fireplace, but I'm not intending to put a burner or fire in. I've stripped back the plaster looking for a lintel, and about 1.65m from ground and not found one. Plus the brickwork shape is making me wonder if there will be one at all - can't find any other...

Existing garden wall - strengthening for gate

Can anyone suggest how to build a pier/pillar(?) to strengthen the end of this wall? How much of the existing brickwork should I strip back?

Existing garden wall - strengthening for gate

Yes, we do own it - however, the problem with that approach is that the fully-open gate would then cover up the first 20-30cm of the bifold patio door opening. So don't want to do that. Good point though, just won't be suitable in this instance.

Removing counterweighted (by concrete blocks) garage door

Thanks JobAndKnock There are no springs - just weights, as far as I can see. The staging sounds like a good idea. I might need to improvise using whatever I can find in the shed, but that seems sound advice. I'm wondering whether I should use some ratchet straps to keep the door in...

Removing counterweighted (by concrete blocks) garage door

Not sure if this is the right category for this, but here goes: I'd really appreciate some advice on how to go about removing an old counterweighted garage door. It is an old single-skin steel door, minus half that skin and minus the frame. By that I mean there is no frame around the...
