    Tinting matt emulsion

Good advice - I might try giving that a go. Mind you, when I wanted a colour matched from a tiny little 1-inch square swatch that didn't have a Dulux equivalent, they did an impressively good job of pretty much nailing it! :) Anyone else got any thoughts in the meantime? :) Thanks, Andy

    Tinting matt emulsion

Hi all - I hope someone can offer some advice. I'm looking to repaint a large bedroom with matt emulsion. It needs to be a green colour but, despite all the thousands of different green emulsions on offer from the likes of Dulux, Crown, Paint&paper library, Little Greene, Farrow and Ball...

The OP sounds a lot like me: a presentation starts to roll and I'm sitting there gazing at the furniture and light fittings instead!

    Silicone sealant around GU10 spotlights/downlights

Hi everyone, I'm a basic DIYer and claim to be nothing more than that so please bear with me! I leave anything to do with electrics (apart from changing lightbulbs and wiring plugs) to the professionals! I've inherited a situation where I've got a load of GU10 down/spotlights which have...

Painting walls to look like wood...

Thanks for the response and the information. I think you're right about the wet edge and about the texture too... I think I'll need to give it some more thought before I leap in and make a mistake. Trying an eggshell sounds like a good idea too... I think I might take a trip to the nearby...

    Dado Rail - First Attempt

Thanks for the inputs guys - the reverse mitred joints are looking good so far (considering my lack of ability with such things!) so I'll post a couple of pics when I feel they're ready for public consumption. :) Thanks again. :D

Painting walls to look like wood...

Hi all, Can you use Dulux Satinwood (solvent based) over Matt emulsion to give a satin finish to a wall? The wall needs to be given the same texture as the skirting board in that room, which is MDF painted with Dulux Satinwood paint. I was hoping to be able to roller or brush the same...

    Dado Rail - First Attempt

(Smacks own forehead with palm because it now seems so obvious!) See, that's why this site has become my bible: you find a problem that seems to have no solution, you ask for help and within hours people have provided the PERFECT answer! I have made an external mitre joint, trimmed it to size...

    Dado Rail - First Attempt

Thanks for the feedback but 'returning' skirting and dados to the wall when you come to the end of a run is the right thing to do and - when painted (which the photo doesn't show) looks very smart. Leaving a flat, sawn edge would look terrible. Plus, leaving sharp, sawn edges that protrude is...

    Dado Rail - First Attempt

Hi everyone, I've been a reader of the forum for several years and have always found the help and information on here VERY useful. It's probably clear how useful it is because I've not had to post on here until now, despite my partner and I restoring a 1750s house to bring it back from the...
