    Drilling into VERY HARD concrete

Quite possibly. Seems highly likely. Maybe I could flog them to the Army as armour for their tanks! I know that most new-build homes are made out of tissue paper, spit, hope & a prayer but I'd like to be able to drill into "normal bricks" for a change. Talking about baggy holes, it isn't...

    Drilling into VERY HARD concrete

Anyway, a further update in the Bosch CYL-9 vs DeWalt Extreme drill bit test ... Had a go at drilling four 6mm x 30mm holes for wall plugs in an outside wall which is made out of a very hard engineering-type of brick (Lord alone knows why *shrugs*) The Bosch CYL-9 drill bit definitely coped...

    Drilling into VERY HARD concrete

Yes, that was my thinking more or less exactly. XRD

    Drilling into VERY HARD concrete

Thanks. Didn't know that's how a SDS drill worked. A quick 'Google' tells me that SDS stands for 'Slotted Drive Shaft' and that the drill bit moves forwards and backwards within the chuck. A 'hammer drill' moves the chuck containing the drill bit backwards and forwards Makes me think that...

    Drilling into VERY HARD concrete

Perhaps so, but that would have added more expense to the job. I think that the CYL-9 bits will deal with our 'engineering' bricks - providing the weather is dry and not windy, I'll test that out tomorrow, if not it will be Tuesday. I'll probably get a 3.5mm and/or 4mm CYL-9 at some point for...

    Drilling into VERY HARD concrete

Okay so the results are in... I had four and a half holes (6mm dia and 30mm deep) to drill. Not impressed with either bit to be honest. If anything, the Bosch CYL-9 just edges it. If it was a school report for the CYL-9 it would say: "After an impressive start to the term, they quickly went...

    Drilling into VERY HARD concrete

So I now have 5 masonry drill bits - two DeWalt Extreme and 3 (minimum order quantity) Bosch CYL-9. With 5 brand-new drill bits, I should be able to drill four-and-a-half holes in the lintel :giggle: "Drill-off" is tomorrow! Dave

    Drilling into VERY HARD concrete

It looked like that after the first hole! I'm not surprised that it isn't making much progress to be honest! Dave

    Drilling into VERY HARD concrete

Not with my bricks or lintel it wouldn't! I appreciate it when folks take the time to reply, but honestly, I am NOT going to buy an SDS drill just to drill 4-and-a-half holes for wall plugs. Hence what I said in my OP. The drill is a DeWalt DCD995 with fully-charged 4Ah battery. No idea...

    Drilling into VERY HARD concrete

Hellofolks Posted this in the "Building" section - don't know if 'Tools & MAterials" is more appropriate. Anyhow... Trying to drill a 6mm dia 30mm deep hole (for a wall plug) into a concrete lintel - and not having much joy to be honest. I've managed to completely drill one hole (out of six)...

Suitable waterproof tape for a temporary repair

Err... not to my knowledge. Sadly, I didn't take any pictures when J. Wayne & Co were busy "working". I think it may have done (can't remember now) Was that a thing in the mid-1950's when this house was built? There is a basement original to the house with several rooms but evidently no...

Suitable waterproof tape for a temporary repair

That's useful information, thanks. All I need is a 'temporary repair' to last until 3rd Jan when the roof is booked in to be done. XRD

PIR LED Security Light with Accessory Switching

Well,I had a look at both the Timeguard LED PRO 10B floodlight and the dedicated PIR - the Timeguard LED PRO SLB and it looks very straightforward and offers what I Wanted. However, LEDBulbs.co.uk have both of these in stock (floodlight and PIR) and together with free delivery, they come to...
