Sorry, not sure how to do this. The bar moves from side to side when the engine starts up and revs. Are the flaps open before or after the bar moves, or do I need to look somewhere completely different?

Is it possible that the thermostat might be stuck in the closed position, which is why the radiator isn't getting hot? Went out in the car yesterday and gauge started to work, but then dropped back down to nothing.
