    Bathroom Ventilation Regs

I see the point but another solution might be to use backdraft shutters just before the y junction. I*m having two cores cut now to avoid any diffivulty with BC. (He also told me soil vent pipe opening should be 3 metres from window but i recall regs say 1 metre if within 3 metres so I feel...

    Bathroom Ventilation Regs

Thanks for replying. I could find plenty of law and regulations relating to those two points. :) If joining two vent ductings cannot be acceptable one might wonder why 'Y' junctions are manufactured and two electricians have told me they have fitted them without a problem from BC.

    Bathroom Ventilation Regs

Hi, I have two bathrooms upstairs with two inline extractors in the loft. Ducting from each fan to eternal wall (2 and 3 metres) with a 'Y' junction just before to one duct into one outlet. BC have told me each fan needs it's own outlet to prevent extracted air being channeled back toward...

Upgrading shower circuit from 6mm to 10mm

Thanks for the replies and my apologies for the incorrect terminology. I presume that a fuse 'blows' and a circuit breaker 'trips'. I just need to flick the switch back up to restore power. I am somewhat alarmed to read the shower may be dangerous. To clarify, I don't have an...

Upgrading shower circuit from 6mm to 10mm

Hi, Currently my shower is - from looking at the cable externally - on a 6mm cable circuit over about 5 metres connected to a 30 amp fuse. No RCD. Shower is 8.5kw and I am limited to around 10 minutes of use before the fuse trips. If I get an electrician to upgrade the cable to 10mm...

    Backfilling with wet clay

Thank you for your replies. Not only did the trench not collapse I can now forget about it over the winter. :)

    Backfilling with wet clay

I have finished laying the underground drainage outside and have backfilled with about 50 cm of clay. However, it is very soft due to all the rain and is currently like walking on a sponge. The drain is in the garden and will only be walked over. I will either put top soil back or pave. What...

Part H Pipe run under foundations

Thanks for the reply. What worries me is that the trench which is little more than 30 cm wide and 80 cm deep with a non-load bearing wall between the main walls as well as a gas and electricity pipe traversing it is making excavation a long job. Trench is 20 cm below base of foundation. I...

Part H Pipe run under foundations

Hi all, Firstly thanks for such a useful website. I have searched the forums but can't find an answer so thought I would post here. 2.25 on P14 of Part H states "A drain trench should not be excavated lower than the foundations of any building nearby (see Diagram 8) unless [trench is...
