When you wanted to get to sleep and somebody had the music on too load, the trick was to take the bulb out of the table lamp, replace it with a threepenny bit and turn the power back on.

Instant quiet.

The modern equivelent is a 13A plugtop with earth and neutral wired together... a tripped RCD raises a lot less suspicians thans a blown fuse-link ;)
 
He did a roaring trade in round-pin plug tops wired to square pin trailing outlets!
We used to replace our sockets with BS 1363s...

But then we also once stole building materials from a nearby site and bricked up the housekeeper in her flat while she slept, so don't rely on what we used to do....

We used some plasterboard that was around to make one guy's room disappear. Nailed up and painted whilst he was indulging in the Bar.

Gets back to Hall in a drunken state and can't find his room. Goes to security for help (I've lost my room...) and they tell him he's p***d, so p*** off. He had to sober up before he could get his brain in gear to find his room. :LOL:
