Ideal HE24 Boiller what does the expansion vessel do?

Have a Ideal HE24 THING ( Id h8 to call it a boiler ) It was working good till could smell gas, not bad but checked it out, turned the gas off at the mains.... thats when things started to go bad. At 1st It'd take a few resets and back to normal, then....... mad vibrations from the firing chamber cover, then it'd light for 2-3 seconds, LED would come on then die along with the heat, then No 't' (preheating of plate heat exchanger stopped appearing) now, goes thru Its start-up, I checked Everything I could (except Auto Air Vent)but still no fire, up, no LED except when calling for CH just a '0' then a 4 then a 'd', NO 't'.... then good old L-F, condensate good, I did 1 thing wrong tho.... It says "Dont Run This Piece of Sh%t With top cover off" ermmm I did.... any thought or Ideas if Ive screwed something running with cover off...Ive just pumped some air into this Expansion Vessel, still no 't' but the thing tries to fire for about 1/2 a second with a sort of fart sound......and ideas wud be very appreciated........... why did you pump air in E.V ?
put that piece of junk in the bin .
banging noise when firing
usually relates to
1.faulty gas valve /setting
2.electrode faulty
3.p.c.b faulty

You should get someone in, running the boiler with c/cover off is crazy, it even has a big label on the front telling you not to!!!!!

So giving you any more advice could br dangerous for you and your family.

If you've not killed yourself or your family yet phone ideal out for a fixed price repair. Orat least get a proper trained engineer in
