Hello,

I'm looking into replacing my shower curtain with a shower screen (being fed up with the ever lasting mold and dirt on the bottom of the curtain).

As you can imagine I do not want to spent fortune on it to get a perfect one, though what are the main things I should be aware of when selecting a shower screen?

- preferably it should be foldable (so i can grab the shower head when standing outside of the bath)
- and foremost - easy to clean (no mold building up on edges and no soap going under joins/edges that is really impossible to wipe)
- i do not really care about the look of it (if it is stylish or not)

Any advice?

Thanks

They are all much of a muchness in my mind. The key to it is ensuring that after its use an after shower sparay is used (many on the market) this will stip staining and lime buildup. Make sure this is used from day one then hopefully it should stop the buildup.

I have a few properties that are rented and they have the same set up as I have and are within the same local area. We always use the shower spray after and ours is over 10yrs old and our one look like new compared to ones that are only 3 years old in the rented properties. Most recently I have provided shower sprays for new tenants and stating on the contract it must be used and everything is much better (but they did need a deep clean first as lime sticks to lime).

The panels come in 4 and 6 etc. for the folding type. I would say, it's worth going for a 6. Stops a lot of over shoot onto the floor.

I am no expert but based on my personal experience the 180 degree turn shower screen or the fixed ones are better than folding ones. Less hassle, more sturdy and avoid water spillage outside the bath.

You can get one off ebay for around 40 quid.

Niagara do a foldable multi panel with a drop down channel which the panels push into to give a very good seal.

personally I would not go for a folding screen as they tend to leak.

Don't go for a screen with a top and bottom hinge either because the rubber seal against the wall is reliant on the straightness of your tiles

Do go for a screen which has a metal channel screwed to the wall first with the screen slotting into it. This type is much stronger.

Go for the best you can afford. My own screen cost £180 but I've had it twenty years

Buy a squeegy and wipe the excess water off the inside of the glass after each use. this will stop the build up of water staining and the screen will look good for longer.

hope that helps!
