Is it asbestos?

Hello,

My house was built in the mid 80's.

The facias were replaced by the last owner but the soffits are original. These look like an asbestos board and has also been used as a ceiling board on my outside door canopy.

This similar board was used as a wall backing for my boiler, I had this tested as I was replacing the boiler and the results came back as NON asbestos material.

Can I safely presume that the same board has been used externally?

I could get it tested again but thought I'd ask here first.

Many thanks.

I think they stopped using asbestos in the 70's.

Asbestos has been used for soffits. If in doubt don't mess with it and get it tested.

It is up to 2000 for white asbestos - as used in cement board products like soffit board, but almost all the large house builders stopped in the early 80's.

If the inside board is the same, then you can probably assume it is non-asbestos.

Either way, working on it or removing it externally has minimal risk if you just use common sense
