We have recently had a complaint about the levels of dust from a site we are on, (interesting neighbourhood!).

We tend to dry cut with the stihl saw, mainly because we don't do a lot of cutting, but alas, the neighbour is unhappy.

I wondered if there was actually a guideline environmentally that we had to adhere to as builders. Like I say, we don't do it a lot, but want to ake sure i've got my ducks in a row before responding to him. I called the local council but they said that they don't have any guidelines, and don't appear to have to many issues with it.

It's better to cut with water though anyway?
A trickle from a hosepipe, or a mate with a old washing-up liquid bottle squirting the blade.
Doubt anybody could get done for dry cutting though.

The council can issue a stop "causing a nuisance" notice same as for a noise nuisance notice. They can and will enforce it in my limited experience.

I can't believe it is banned - so many contractors all over the place don't bother with them, even the local council contractors.....i just wondered if there was a genuine reg on this sort of thing.

I suppose the only answer is to call them? Its hard to tell from that document if its just a guideline - or that its enforceable.

after reading the HSE site, it would be healthier to do wet cuts!
