Looking for some help with a mixer tap which looks very similar to this:

Basically, the handles have loosened so that when you try and shut the water off, they are up against the wall tiles behind The Handles themselves can be unscrewed which then allows the whole knob to be spun 360. Doing this, I can put them back into the desired position, however if they are pushed to hard on closing, they end up against the wall again. This can be remedied by opening them fully and then pulling the handle around a little bit more.
Is there a way of mixing the closed position permanently?

Can the 'cap' be popped off? Is there anything underneath that can be tightened up?

Cheers.

It sounds as if the splines on the 1/4 turn cartridges have worn to the point where the head is slipping around on the top of the cartridge.

No real cure other than to replace the cartridge(s)

Could be an allen grub screw under the lever handles, try taking the handles out and poking about with a 2.0, 2.5 or 3.0mm allen key.

Thanks for the reply's everyone, appreciated.

I'm not at home to check, however as far I remember, the end of the handle itself was bored out and threaded, and the small screw part was left sticking out. I.e. it screws on rather than in. I could be wrong though? Even still, is it possible that there is still an Allen Key inside this screw part? It would have to be tiny...

Can these be persuaded off with a flat head screwdriver?

You mentioned cartridges. Are the cartridges always replaceable? I thought it was more likely that the inner part of the head (plastic?) would be warn as opposed to the cartridge which I presume to be metal, like this? http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/rdcAAOSwIgNXqyfL/s-l500.jpg

Cheers again for the help ladies/gents.

If there are nylon inserts inside the tap head then quite possible - remove tap head to find out.

If I cant find a screw to loosen it though, can it be gently 'pursueded' off with a flat head screwdriver or something?
