I am looking for a mushroom/dome head type bolt. They need to be able to sit flush so can't have the square anti-spin shoulder under the head. I have considered roofing bolts, however, I don't want the crosshead type. Any ideas would be very much appreciated. Thanks Marcus.

How do you plan to use them?

You can drill clearance for the square.

What size? How many do you need? Indoors or out? What budget?

They are not flush because the dome projects.

How about

Yes, I suppose I could enlarge the hole? The size would be about M6 and it's for external use. The workshop shop door had all the hinge screws removed in an attempt to gain entry hence not wanting to use crosshead bolts!

Wouldn't using split washers and washers under the interior nut mean that the rotating the bolt outside would not result in the nut unwinding?

If that is the case, you could use the cross head dome bolts. ( I am not an authority so please wait until someone more knowledgeable than me agrees or disagrees).

Additionally, couldn't you use hinge bolt to prevent the door from being removed even if the hinges are removed?

If you want them for security, coach bolts would do fine. You can enlarge the hole for the square (quite shallow) so it is an interference fit, and as you tighten the nut on the otherside, it will crush the wood fibres and drive itself home. With a plain domed head, and the square tight in the wood, it will be very difficult or impossible to undo from the head side.

If you use hook and band hinges (some are very strong) they have some square holes that coach bolts will fit into, and have the nuts on the inside.

Hinge Bolts excellent idea thank you!

Roofing bolts are fine for this, you only really need one or two on each hinge, but you may aswell do the lot.

If someome tries to unscrew them all that will happen is the nut will spin with the bolt. Especially if nyloc nuts are used.
