Damp lean to brickwork - high patio

Hi the brickwork of my lean to is damp and has algae on which also spreading to floor. I know the patio has been laid too high by previous owners, but they have cut a channel out. This just fills up with rainwater and makes the bricks wet. The brick wall seems to be single skin.

I’m not sure what the best course of action is ?

Remove a larger section of the patio to lower the ground level closer to the house?

If I do this will the brick wall be salvageable ?

can you stand back and take pics of the yard/lean to area, and pics showing any interior damp?

You need to install an drainage channel against wall,for a temp fix cut out small section of gulley against wall to allow water to drain away.

As for the drainage channel do these normally get run into the existing outside drain that the drainpipe runs into?

dont go cutting into anything esp the gulley surround until you know how the gulley is constructed?

hopefully, if the yard has been laid to falls then surface water would run to the gulley?
one possibility then would be to remove all the raised "patio" and drop the gulley to the old yard finished surface?

a linear drain needs careful thought before cutting it into the gulley.
the high gulley surround could be a cause of water penetrating the brickwork in that corner?

i dont see signs of a DPC in the wall or a DPM below the internal concrete?

channel drains would not disturb the wall or undermine it.

fwiw: your between a rock and a hard place - more or less, no matter what you do you will get moisture penetration into your lean-to. thats unless you re-build the whole thing with a "new" yard and internal conc floor.

The gulley needs lowering no matter what you do, water will not run into it, it may be sufficient just lowering gulley alone as it's not a long run against outbuilding.

Thanks for the advice. I haven’t got the budget to remove and rebuild.

So I am going to remove the patio slabs and see if that improves the situation at least the water won’t be sitting against the brickwork in the channel.

Oh ok maybe I should remove the brickwork around the gulley first. I guess that would an easy job I have a sledgehammer!
