Hello

Recently bought a house built around 1955. There has been a garage built onto the side. The garage has ceiling tiles. I've attached pictures. They seem to me to be plasterboard - but I'm just not sure and now beginning to worry a little. Wonder if anyone here would know quickly whether simple plasterboard or potentially something else?

Many thanks for all help.

Dave

Almost certain to be plasterboard with what looks like hardboard over the top

Your first pic look like hardboard over the top but now looking at pics 2 and 3 I'm not so sure.....

Has the garage roof been leaking?

Thanks for really quick reply - yea I believe roof has leaked in past but not now. Material seems powdery white - it didn’t appear fibrous to me, but I’m pretty ignorant!

It's look exactly like plasterboard so I wouldn't worry too much

Are you planning to replace it and insulate too?

Was planning on just leaving as that portion of garage now just a store - was just getting a little worried as was falling apart! Thanks again for response - appreciated

No worries

Personally I would be bringing it down if it has no use.

If the roof leaks again it will be much easier to spot it and wet plasterboard which has fell creates a hell of a mess to clean up
