Is 3x2 strong enough?

I need to form a coat cupboard in the hallway. It will have a double door to it. I was going to use 4x2's as I have done with other partitions arround the house but could do with saving as much space as possible. Will I encounter problems if I use 3x2?

You could use 2 x 2 in reality, providing you use a lightweight (35mm thick) door

Doors will be fairly heavy. I want the wall as robust as possible but without going overkill. Shall I just stick with 4x2

Fairly heavy? Unless you talking 90kg+ doors then 3 x 2 CLS with a couple of skins of 12mm plasterboard are more than enough. 4 x 2 is just overkill - after all you aren't building a structural wall. BTW if you built from 2 x 2 with sufficient noggins and skinned with 4mm plywood (glued and screwed) the structure would probably be stiffer than a frame of 4 x 2 nailed together but with no noggins
