Hi everyone, I was just trying to sort a problematic spotlight in our landing ceiling, and when taking out the unit saw that the ceilings aren't plasterboard. I've attached a photo. Is this sort of board familiar to anyone? House was built in around 1970 and I assume that this ceiling is of that era.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Jon

Yep. Something like Sundaela board which is an insulated board

Ok thanks. I was worried it might be some sort of asbestos product.

Sigh, wondered when that was coming. What is it with this year? Seems the whole world is overly hand wringing over asbestos.

Lol I think 2020 will be infamous for reasons other that people worrying about asbestos.
Seriously though it's worth asking the question if you live in a 70s house and there's some fibrous boarding that you don't recognise so don't be too down on me

Sorry to possibly rain on the Asbestos issue, the board could do with a dedicated "Topic" for Asbestos and Hive problems??

There is a further issue? the fiber board could be Cellotex brown fiber board or as posted Sundaela board, both are flammable ?? could be the Asbestos issue pales a bit ??

Ken.

Good point Ken, thanks. I'll have to be careful if it has the potential to be flammable, especially as we had squirrels in the loft earlier in the year that chewed through a lighting cable.

That's true enough, Sundaela is or was flammable, although so are most timber products. AFAIK modern Sundaela board is fire resistant, but I don't know when that started. For the "greenies" on here, Sundaela is 100% recycled material
