This is the spirit of enterprise. Barratt Homes which built the flats covered in cladding and have made about £1.8bn in profit since 2017. So far Barratt have paid £1.3 million towards the renovation of the flats but Adeline does not think that is a large enough contribution to the £13million project. These flats are now pretty much worthless.

Building companies donate a lot of money to the Conservative Party.

In other news,

"The Tories have received more than £11m from property developers since Boris Johnson became prime minister, an investigation has found.

The revelation comes amid a donor scandal that threatens the career of the housing secretary, Robert Jenrick.

Concerns have been raised about the apparent increased influence property developers have over the Conservative government. Their contributions make up nearly a quarter of the £47.5m in donations received by the party from last July to March, up from 7.9 per cent of the total two years ago."

"Mr Jenrick is facing calls to resign over his unlawful intervention in the planning of a luxury East London property development being submitted for approval by Tory donor Richard Desmond.

Electoral Commission figures show major Tory donors include luxury property developer Nick Candy and West Ham United owner David Sullivan, who donated £75,000 ahead of last year’s general election through a small property company he controls. There is no suggestion that any donors are involved in any wrongdoing.

The largest donors include Malcolm and Eddie Healey – dubbed “East Yorkshire’s richest men” – who have donated more than £1.2 million to the party between them since Mr Johnson took office. Others include property developer and longtime Tory donor Tony Gallagher, who has given the Conservatives almost three-quarters of a million pounds through his company Countywide Developments Ltd since the same date."

at least the Tory party dont want to change planning rules to benefit developers

oh wait a minute....

SWEEPING changes to the planning system are set to streamline the process for developers.

But council chiefs say the government’s overhaul will make it harder for decisions to be properly considered locally and more difficult to secure commitments to affordable housing and other community benefits

Barretts are amoung the same companies that build poor quality homes using cheap materials and unskilled foreign labour to cut costs to make maximum profit.

It's just a coincidence that their generosity is repaid a thousand fold by the taxpayer.

Unfortunately people “buy” leasehold properties without realising that they are contractually responsible for the maintenance and repair of the property. It’s really time that we ended the lease concept for residential property and moved to a share of freehold model. That way residents can choose what is needed or not. There may be perfectly adequate mitigation options to reduce the fire risk such as installing breaks or external fire suppression.

They pass Building regs. If they can build with cheap materials and still sell at a hefty profit - perhaps the problem is the structure of the market.

Maximising profit is the pupose of capitalism. When did you become a socialist?

Instead they should use expensive English unskilled Labour that is unreliable (y)

Ok, you maybe own the property, however it can't be right that you're left to meet partial or full costs for something that wasn't your fault or instigated by you. Maybe not a great analogy, however let's say my neighbours roof significantly fails. It's discovered that the roof tiles used during the original construction were not specified as being suitable for the pitch of roof. This has led to much quicker degradation of the tiles, allowing significant water ingress and roof failure. All the roofs in the estate/scheme are still covered with said tiles.

There is practically no way residents who have bought the houses in my scenario could have known this at the time of purchase or thereafter, so why should they be liable to meet cost of remedial works? I don't even think they should need to use their home insurance. There should be some form of central fund, perhaps funded by all registered housebuilders on a mandatory basis. Then, when cases arise where current owners are deemed not to be responsible, the fund should cover the cost.

This isn't related to cladding, however it's verging on farcical the amount of articles you can find re shoddily built homes. The system is evidently broken somewhere. Taken for granted that you need a snagging list when buying your shiny new property that cost hundreds of thousands? Ridiculous. Is it a prerequisite for inspectors to be registered blind to gain employment?

I think I saw something on the tellybox a few weeks back re they're exploring ways to do away with leasehold? We don't have that hassle up here thank goodness.

Are you dancing on the ceiling again?

Always follow the money.

Leasehold tycoon: man whose firms control 40,000 UK homes
As controversy grows over revelations that leaseholders are being trapped by spiralling ground rents, we look at the property empire of James Tuttiett

A company run by a property tycoon who recently made a five figure donation to the Tories is forcing the residents of a block of flats with flammable cladding foot the bill for safety measures.

No they should use skilled labour regardless of where they are from or what colour they are..... its the biggest investment most of us will ever make... its not much to ask for, considering the years of debt....
