Hi
I have just made some planters to get rid of random strips of dead grass I had at the edge of my patio. I will be filling them with compost but am I better to put weed killer down where the grass was, then line the planter before filling it, or should I just fill it without lining it? Only reason Im asking is I dont want the grass, weeds etc. to start growing up through and out the top.

don't put weed killer in, it will kill the new roots. Just dig it over, if no seeds it can't grow.

I’d line it to stop the planters rotting. Perhaps punch a few holes in the liner for drainage.

yeah, line it. I was thinking of building a planter around a bulk bag, although not sure they will stop moisture?

You’ll be surprised how quickly unprotected wood planters rot. Scaffold boards used for edging over my allotment are finished after a couple of years.
