double push on/off dimmer wiring

I am replacing a double dimmer,same as I have, a push on/off switch which feeds wall lights on one switch and ceiling light with the other.(All was working OK, just wanted metal switch) I have put wires as they were on first switch, live to ~ on switch 1, bridged to ~ on switch 2, then L1 on first switch to wall lights and L1 on second switch to ceiling light.
My problem is, switch one, to wall lights all OK.
Switch 2 to ceiling lights, nothing. On testing, L2 shows live on and off when switch pressed and no power showing on L1. What have I missed!

Many an hour wasted on faulty new products.

Swap the wires and see if it works the other way round.

Metal switch...dont forget to earth the faceplate
