Any clues as to what could be wrong with the motor, that would cause the RCD to trip when it starts the spin cycle

Ermm, the motor then?I swapped the motor out and it seams to be fine.
Pretty sure it will be the machine if it goes through the waash cycle but not spin. My first thought would have been brushes or carbon dust, like you, but sounds like a new motor job if they have been ruled out.N to E fault and you're just blaming the machine?
So you are saying the macchine now works with a different motor and the old motor com, brushes and holders are all good. In that case one of the coils must be short to earth. Bearings would cause an overload and trip an MCB not the RCD. The contact to ground will be through the motor body and the mountings or an earth connection.I swapped the motor out and it seams to be fine.
Just worried the bearings aren’t that good in replacement motor, so wondered what actual problem was
