Hi all, installed a new strip light but the wires on the new one went in at the end instead of centre. I now need to chase the wire through the ceiling. It's only around 24" away. Any tips for doing this with as least mess as poss please? (See pic) Ps. Yes I know I should have done the chasing first but it's been done so that for now the light works. The chasing can be done another time.

Have you thought about cutting a hole in the centre of the light fitting?

Probably you bought an under cupboard light and not a light designed for ceiling mounting, but you are here now. Which way do the joists run? You may not need to chase the ceiling all the way across at all. cut a small hole in ceiling at the cable entry end and use a length of stiff wire to try and probe to the light centre. then you will need to make a join and this junction will go in the ceiling. This will mean that you will need a maintenance free junction box. What this is will depend on how many wires are involved.

The old one I took down did have centre hole cut. Hence the ceiling wires drop point. However this new one has it's connections not in the centre,.but instead a choice of either end. So, just need to make new hole near the connected end then somehow pull wires through ceiling to get to new hole. Looking for tips.

Make a piece of timber as an off stand/plinth.
It could be smaller than the fitting or larger.
Either pack the plinth to create a channel, or rout a cable channel

Fit the light to the plinth then the plinth to the ceiling, using French cable to the ceiling void if necessary.

You might be able to do it using plasterboard instead of wood.

Id probably be dropping the grey wire out near the end if possible

The final connection using a clik or similar and a short piece of flexible

I've obviously not properly explained what advice I need here. I simply want to know ideas for pushing the wire back in the current hole then back out through a new hole that i will make near the end of the light. How to 'find' the new hole with the wire?

If it's all cavity you can fish it through

Fish a thinner wire through firstt then attach grey

If not it's probably surface work
