Following doing Google "mountfield mower problems" Was diverted to "DIYnot" (excelent & joined) to query and to your reply :- If it has a chinese SV150 engine you need to try cleaning the carburettor. Just also check that the governer springs are ok and the plate hasn't been disturbed. So I took off the cover (fan/starter mech) to get at a spring obvious adrift and hopefully hooked back on to the right vacant hole front of carb. On assembled ete engine/mower worked fine.

1) what does spring do to rear pivot lever?
2) should I go back and clean also 2year old M/C ?
