    Channel drain stone path

I’d cut them, dig deeper than the channel then knock the channel down onto a concrete mix.

    Air flow in loft

I’d say you want airflow in A so that air can go up between the rafters.

Joist size for loft storage room?

Thanks :) I’ll go with the 6x2, would you also use 6x2 for the noggins or could you use 4x2 so cables can thread along easier? The old ceiling was in poor condition so we dropped the lath and plaster.

Joist size for loft storage room?

My daughters house has 85 year old saggy 2.75x 1.75 ceiling joists in the bedrooms. We want to lower it and also put a platform (4 sheets of 18mm ply) up there for storage, there’s no intention for it ever to become a habitable room. On one side the span is 4.0mtrs, on the other it’s 3.0mtrs...

    Possible leaking drain

If it were drain water it would be grey or black and sticky/smelly. You could dye test your drains to check for leaking.

Could have been put there to take the sink waste from your downstairs toilet. You can pull a camera up a junction with a piece of thin rope.

    Inspection chamber adapter?

That’s definitely not common at any time, it’s almost like the second half of an old tippler. I think you will struggle to get the adaptor but could still have the pipe go in there and make a deal with something else.

    Compaction pipe backfill

I’d be careful over the pipe but overly concerned.

    Quick fire concrete mixing questions:

I’d put 2 bags of ballast in a decent size wheelbarrow, 1/2 bag of cement, give that a mix, then add as much water as you want to get the consistency you want. Actually I wouldn’t, I’d hire a mixer.

Is older loft roll insulation likely to be flamable?

Before my daughter drops her bedroom ceilings she will need to shift the loft insulation. It’s the old itchy yellow stuff. I’m wondering weather she would be better off bagging and binning it then putting fresh back in when the jobs done?

    Bricking up external door

I just did one using wall starters and it was easy. I used bricks but blocks should be quicker/easier. I’ll get a pro in to do the outside.

What have you been doing today?

I just had the BMW mot’d for the first time. I took it to BMW the other day and they quoted £224 for rear brake pads and £180odd for a tyre that had a dangerous bulge on the inside. My cousin did the rear pads for £60, I booked in for the tyre at Kwik-Fit, they wanted £151. Got there, he took...
