    Laminate floor newbie

Thanks for the info. I thought it might be the light falling on the joins might show they up more. The flooring i have is beveloc where the joins are bevelled to make it look more like real wood, so the joints are purposly highlighted anyway. Sorry to hijack your thread nightfox, i would...

    Laminate floor newbie

Yes I could cut the first board and last board but that still twice as many cuts than if I lay them the other way. I meant board direction which is also the same as the grain direction. I was surprised to see they recommended laying them in a certain direction, understandable in long narrow...

    Laminate floor newbie

I've see a liquid sealant remover but never tried it. I've always just used a stanley knife and wallpaper scaper. I'm a laminate floor newbie but about to put my first floor down this weekend. I also have the same question regarding grain, the instructions say lay the boards length ways...

    Attempted hack or genuine call?

I get these calls all the time but being a systems anaylst I tend to ask some questions first How do they know my computer has errors? Why were they monitoring my PC and where did they get the phone number from? Why do they need remote access, just tell me what button to press? etc etc...

    My first bathroom refit

Thanks the for the info, planning to do some more research before en-suite as I need to put decent humidity extraction in above the shower and remove a false wall to increase the shower width from 1200 to 1400 (he says nervously). I used Mapei adhesive and grout which was really good. To be...

    My first bathroom refit

Thanks for the feedback, I'm glad someone noticed that. I did sit their for a while trying to weigh up all the options as it had been over 10 years since I did any tiling. The way it is now gives me a full tile above the bath and virtually a full tile (give or take a few mm) above the...

    Simply Kitchens

The TK14 look the same design as Franke and they are only £40 delivered. I would be tempted to go that route as well. My crosswater bathroom taps were about £250 but the bath tap is already getting tough to turn after 18 months of very little use.

    Simply Kitchens

If the reviews are bad I would say don't bother, especially with something as easy to damage in transit as a kitchen sink. I ordered a £160 chrome heated towel rail from inspired heating that had a big dent in when I opened the box, they were not interested. Why not get the sink from B&Q...

    My first bathroom refit

My first DIY attempt at a bathroom, just a basic rip out and replace really. Porcelain tiled floor with underfloor heating, digital timer in airing cupboard at back of shower. Radiator was moved from below window to behind the door by professionals whilst they were replacing central heating...

Make an old acrylic bath shine again.

Using the Brasso is like polishing a car, I don't seem to remember it being anymore slippy than the bath is when you buy it new. It's like it removes the very top layer of Acrylic (but not noticably) thats why the faint scratches are removed. Works a treat on white plastic bath panels as well...

    How to copy dvd films

If they are older films then DVD Shrink should decrypt the film, rip it to your hard drive and burn you a disc all in one go. Select the burn to disc option, when it has finished it will ask you if you want to keep the Audio/Video output files. Select yes then if there is some issue with the...

Make an old acrylic bath shine again.

Haha I wasn't sure anyone would be interested. Use a small amount of baby oil on some kitchen roll to clean kitchen stainless steel. Wipe any excess off with a clean piece of kitchen roll. For the wood effect UPVC windows/soffits use WD-40, they look brand new with one wipe and it repels...

    decking

Nice job! I've been looking at doing something similar using the modern posts/spindles myself. I've been looking around the internet for pictures of that style decking with lights on.....looks smart.

Make an old acrylic bath shine again.

I also have a tip for remove fine scratches (and dirt) completely and give a gleaming shine. Use the metal cleaner Brasso on a soft cloth (microfibre are good), then buff it off with another clean soft cloth. It will not get rid of deep scratches but some of the fine ones and it will make...

Downlights - replacing 12v low voltage vs mains powered?!

Cheers for the replies. The burnt out transformer had plenty of space, with no insulation around it, same as the lights. Think I will just get a new transformer then, was just a bit vary after the last burn out. I agree with the high running costs but want to keep the cost low at the moment...

Downlights - replacing 12v low voltage vs mains powered?!

Hi, I have 4 12v downlights in my kitchen but one is not working, on inspection the low voltage transformer in the ceiling has a huge burnt hole in it...obviously the problem!! Can anyone tell me the benefit of running 4 low voltage lights with transformers (that potentially burn out!)...

Connecting 32mm basin bottle trap to sink - Easy Question!!!

Cheers for the reply. Will try chopping the top off the bottle trap thread, getting quite handy at hacking into things after mutilating the b&q fitted units to get them in. To be honest the rest of the bathroom bought from bathstore has gone together easy enough, including the bath waste...

Connecting 32mm basin bottle trap to sink - Easy Question!!!

Just took the waste off. The plastic thread bottoms out against the chrome bolt the attaches the waste to the sink from underneath. Picture....not sure thiswill work!

Connecting 32mm basin bottle trap to sink - Easy Question!!!

Cheers for the reply. Yeah both traps I bought have a rubber 'o' ring. The sink waste is from bathstore (click clack - maybe crosswater?) & both traps are shallow type, one from Wickes & the other Toolstation. It's like the thread is not long enough on the sink waste, another 1 or 2 full...
